The Shore Group Celebrate National Apprenticeship Week

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week, and at The Shore Group I wanted to take the opportunity to showcase how successful our apprentice scheme has and continues to be at TSG. We currently have a total of 6 apprentices undertaking a variety of schemes across the business. From recruitment resourcing to software development, our apprentices not only learn on the job, but also undertake a comprehensive apprenticeship training programme to provide them with essential skills and knowledge to hopefully go on and secure permanent role within the business. Of which, 12 of our current colleagues are apprentice graduates. That means that 15% of our total workforce have come through our apprentice training scheme.

What makes it work for us?
At TSG we have found that having apprentices is one of the best routes to entry for recruitment consultants. Being a recruitment apprentice provides a strong grounding in the
basics of recruitment. Learning in a safe, non-threatening environment is the best way to develop skills – something that in the high-pressure role of sales is not always possible. We pair our apprentices up with experienced consultants and they learn everything from job filling, candidate management and client relationships, building their confidence over a 12 –15 month period.

Success stories- 

JOSH BOYCE


We have many success stories of colleagues that have arrived through our apprenticeship scheme. However we thought it would be good to first highlight our ‘original’ apprentice Joshua Boyce. Josh was our very first apprentice and started with the business way back in 2014 when he was just 17 years old. Under the wing of one of our most maverick and demanding consultants, Josh learned his craft on the job. A baptism of fire, he helped to run an extremely busy construction desk in our Kent office. Josh is now one of our most successful billers, running and growing his own division, managing his own apprentice graduate and has recently been promoted to a Senior Consultant. All at the ripe old age of 23. Josh’s story goes to show that an apprentice route is an amazing opportunity to create a successful career. We are all really proud of Josh and all of our other apprentices and graduates.

CAITLIN ROBERTS

Caitlin has been a valued and loved member of The Shore Group team since she joined us as a Business Administration Apprentice for a year in 2018. Our team recognised Caitlin’s dedication to her role and after receiving a distinction in her Apprenticeship, we offered Caitlin a full time job as part of the credit control team as an administrator. Caitlin is now undertaking her second Apprenticeship which is a Level 4 Project Management Course, with the aim to have a more rounded knowledge of different areas of the business. Caitlin is a credit to our Apprenticeship scheme and we are very lucky to have her as a full time team member!

OWEN WHITWELL 

Owen started his journey with The Shore Group as a Business Service Apprentice, studying a level 3 diploma in creative and digital and after 12 months of hard work in this role, Owen decided to switch up his role and focus on IT, entering The Shore Group team as a full time IT trainee and office support where he stayed for 26 months learning and developing his skills within the role. For the last 14 month, Owen has been a manager in the IT and Infrastructure team. Owen has tried and tested several roles since his apprenticeship at The Shore Group, but has since found his calling within the IT team, showing that just because you start your apprenticeship in a certain role, doesn’t mean you will be within that industry for the rest of your career! Thank you for all of your hard work Owen.

JADE

This week we have welcomed our newest apprentice, Jade, who has joined the Compliance Team as the first Compliance Apprentice at The Shore Group. We hope that with Jade joining our team we will be able to improve the efficiency of achieving & maintaining our new & improved on-boarding system. Jade will use her time to gain knowledge & experience in all areas of the recruitment industry specifically from a resourcer’s perspective. We are very excited to have Jade onboard and look forward to her knowledge growing over the next year!
