To continue last week’s National Apprentice Week celebrations, we wanted to speak to one of our graduated apprentices Ryan to get his insight on what it is like to work at The Shore Group and some advice for other apprentices joining the industry.
Name: Ryan Chittenden
What is your role at The Shore Group?
My main role is coordinating/planning our field operatives into many different retail outlet stores across the country. This also involves arranging transport, communicating with the field ops on the tasks ahead and booking accommodation if necessary
How long have you been working at The Shore Group?
I’ve been working at The Shore Group for 1 year and 6 months and I started through the apprenticeship scheme.
How was your experience of being an apprentice at The Shore Group and what skills did being an apprentice teach you?
My time as an apprentice was very enjoyable and helped me learn valuable skills. As I progressed through my apprenticeship, I gained more confidence and responsibility. Working as part of a team was something that I had to do each day as it was viable to completing tasks; good communication between myself and colleagues ensured we achieve as much as possible.
How did you make the change from being an apprentice to being a full-time member of staff and what support did you receive from the team?
I was able to make an impression during my year as an apprentice, I put in the effort and was determined to become part of the team. The support from my colleagues helped a great deal when expressing my desire to work here full time, as they put forward good references based on what they had seen me achieve during my apprenticeship.
What do you like most about working at The Shore Group?
The atmosphere within the office is one of the reasons I love going to work each morning. Having a good team of people who all get along allows us to work hard while maintaining a sense of fun.
How has it been working at The Shore Group during the pandemic?
To be honest its not been that much different for myself as I have still been going into the office each day, one difference would be that the retail stores we support have been much busier due to the demand in supermarkets recently; increasing the workload.
Tell us about some of the jobs you are working on at the moment?
It is difficult to say what we are working on now, as we are supplying a variety of retail stores across the country with our field operatives, we have many projects going on throughout the year and new requests each day.
What are your goals in the future?
One day I would love to become the resource manager and eventually even look after my own accounts. I wish to continue being an integral team member within The Shore Group.
Do you have any tips for anyone looking to join The Shore Group Apprentice Scheme?
Ensure you balance your apprenticeship with the work you do within the office; don’t neglect your coursework. Embrace the opportunity and don’t be afraid to put forward any ideas you may have.
If you are interested in a role at The Shore Group, we are always looking for new members of the team so get in contact today to find out more.
