Occupational Health and Safety Policy Statement
1. Introduction
In the last 24 months, the scope of The Shore Group’s operations has been rapidly diversifying and expanding. This has seen The Group evolve from a primarily office-based resourcing business into a provider of a wide range of services into sectors including the built environment, property, retail, data and aviation.
The Shore Group now offers contractor packages, builder’s work, temporary works, site logistics, civil engineering, retail refits, planned maintenance and fixed price M&E works in addition to its heritage recruitment and payroll services.
The Group’s senior management is committed to providing safe, healthy workplaces for all its employees, subcontractors and any other stakeholders including the public, and those who are impacted by our business activities, as well as meeting all legal and regulatory obligations.
This policy statement sets out the aims, objectives, processes, and control measures in place to help achieve this and highlights those responsible for implementation.
This document is supported by IMS 42 – The Shore Group’s Health and Safety Arrangements document, individual Divisional Health and Safety policies, and a Health and Safety management system certified to ISO BS EN 45001:2018.
2. Scope
This policy is applicable to all Shore Group employees, subcontractors, visitors and any persons operating under our supervision and instruction. It should be implemented on all sites on which The Shore Group are present, either as main contractor or subcontractor, and in all occupied office spaces.
This policy is based on the principles of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all secondary legislation pertaining to it, Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs) and guidance issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The Shore Group are committed to occupational health and safety, the reduction of risk, accidents and ill health, so far as is reasonably practicable, and to the promotion of a safe working environment. This policy is integral to operational management and is supported by the provision of competent occupational health and safety advice.
A groupwide approach of promoting a positive safety culture is reflected in this policy, its associated documents and all operational activity.
3. Health and Safety Responsibilities
Business founders and Directors, James Hobden and Lewis Yorke-Johnson, are ultimately responsible for this policy and Health and Safety across The Shore Group. They are supported by the Group’s C-Suite, and Carey Jelliman, Group Risk and Procurement Director, who is responsible for reporting on Health and Safety performance into the board.
The Shore Group’s Health and Safety and Compliance teams, headed up by Andrew Cooper, Senior SHEQ Manager, are responsible for implementing the policies and procedures of the management system. Each Divisional Director has responsibility for Health and Safety within their division. Competent, trained and experienced site managers are appointed to manage sites safely and in accordance with law, while each individual has responsibility for their own health and safety and that of those around them. To confirm compliance with regulations and ensure operations are in line with best practice, independent, competent advice is provided by third parties.
