OVERVIEW
This project involved the construction of a new school building designed to provide additional classrooms, a plant room and other essential facilities. The development supports the school’s growth and enhances its ability to deliver high-quality education to students.
SCOPE OF WORK
Our works included the formation of pile mats and attendance for CFA piles, installation of reinforced ground beams, construction of reinforced concrete ground floor slabs and reinforced concrete walls. In addition, we delivered hard and soft landscaping as well as foul and storm drainage systems, providing the essential infrastructure for the new building.
CHALLENGES
The project presented several challenges, including a complex reinforcement design and the need to deliver construction within a live school environment where safety and minimal disruption were paramount. Furthermore, the site’s close proximity to a Network Rail line required strict adherence to rail authority requirements and careful planning to ensure safe operations.
SOLUTIONS / BENEFITS
To address these challenges, we completed the work using a restricted-sized plant in full compliance with Network Rail’s safety requirements. We worked closely with Baxalls to develop detailed methodologies and risk assessments, securing Network Rail approval and ensuring the project could proceed without delay. This collaborative and proactive approach allowed us to deliver the project safely and efficiently while maintaining the school’s operations.
SOCIAL VALUE / SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainable construction practices were integrated into the works, including efficient material usage and environmentally conscious drainage solutions. By delivering modern, energy-efficient facilities, the project also supports the school’s long-term operational sustainability.
The project provides tangible social value by expanding the school’s capacity and improving its facilities, directly benefiting students, staff and the wider community. By working safely within a live school environment, we ensured that education could continue uninterrupted while the new spaces were being created.
