OVERVIEW

The Forum in Gloucester is a transformative regeneration project led by Kier Group, creating a vibrant urban hub with more than 125,000 sq ft of office space, a 116-bed hotel, gym, restaurants and retail. Situated in a complex city-centre location, the scheme is a key driver in the city’s ongoing evolution. The Shore Group Logistics team is proud to have played a pivotal role in supporting the build, providing end-to-end logistics management to keep the project running smoothly.

SCOPE OF WORKS

Our on-site services have covered all core logistics functions, including:

  • Waste management

  • Delivery scheduling and traffic coordination

  • Welfare management

  • Plant movement, including complex bridge lifts and installations

  • CSR programme delivery

  • Use of DataScope technology for delivery tracking, CO₂ reporting, and operational visibility

SOCIAL VALUE / SUSTAINABILITY

The project team has been recognised with a CSR award for significant community contributions. Initiatives include work placements for students, support for ex-offenders and refugees, and charitable efforts for vulnerable groups. Environmental performance is equally strong, exceeding Kier’s waste reduction target of 41% and achieving a recycling rate of over 98% through segregation, packaging optimisation and supplier collaboration. Technology supports these efforts, with DataScope providing real-time tracking, delivery consolidation and and CO₂ monitoring.

Leveraging Technology for Enhanced Efficiency and Safety

One of the standout aspects of our logistics operations at The Forum is the use of Datascope’s delivery management system. This technology allows for real-time data sharing directly with our Traffic Marshalls, who rely on it to maintain site safety and functionality. The system enhances efficiency by enabling precise scheduling and tracking of deliveries, which is crucial on a complex site like this.

Our Traffic Marshalls play a vital role in the daily operations, utilising data from Datascope to conduct Daily Activity Briefings with all subcontractors. This ensures that everyone on site is aligned and aware of the day’s delivery management plans, fostering a cohesive and safe working environment.

Additionally, Datascope technology allows our team to generate detailed reports on CO2 emissions and delivery performance, ensuring that our operations are not only efficient but also sustainable. We’re proud to see how data-driven approaches are contributing to success in construction logistics.

CHALLENGES

Delivering large-scale regeneration in a busy city centre required overcoming space constraints, strict environmental targets and the need for close coordination between multiple stakeholders. The tight site layout, high traffic volumes and continuous construction activity demanded precise planning and clear communication.

SOLUTIONS / BENEFITS

Working in close partnership with Kier’s leadership, our logistics team implemented a strategic, data-led approach from the start. Collaboration with Grundon Waste Management and trade contractors ensured waste prevention at source, with Waste Champions managing designated areas to maintain clear workspaces. DataScope technology streamlined delivery scheduling, reduced congestion and provided actionable environmental reporting. The result has been an efficient, safe and sustainable logistics operation that not only meets programme milestones but also leaves a positive legacy for Gloucester.

Conclusion

As The Forum project continues to progress, we remain committed to delivering top-tier logistics support, ensuring that every aspect of the build is handled with precision, care, and a strong focus on sustainability and community impact. The Shore Group Logistics team is proud to be a part of Gloucester’s transformation and looks forward to seeing The Forum become a vibrant hub in the city. In view of our positive work on the project, we have also been supporting the Fit-out stage with site logistics support, working with Envisage Interiors.
