OVERVIEW
This project involved the refurbishment of the Wimbledon MPS (Ministry of Justice) police car park. As part of the wider M&E upgrade for the building, we delivered new external slabs and associated works to improve the site’s functionality and resilience.
SCOPE OF WORK
Our scope included the formation of new reinforced concrete plant slabs, the construction of a new UKPN enclosure, installation of incoming service trenches and the building of a new brick-built LV switch room with a reinforced concrete roof slab. In addition, we replaced the macadam surface across the car park to provide a durable and long-lasting finish.
CHALLENGES
A key challenge was working within a live police car park while maintaining access and ensuring operations could continue without disruption. Delivering construction safely and efficiently in such a high-security, operationally critical environment required precise planning and coordination.
SOLUTIONS / BENEFITS
We worked closely with Baxalls to carefully phase and coordinate activities, allowing the car park to remain fully operational throughout the project. This approach ensured staff always had access while enabling us to deliver essential upgrades to support the building’s wider M&E improvements.
SOCIAL VALUE / SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainable construction methods and efficient resource management were adopted throughout the project to reduce waste and minimise disruption.
The project supports the ongoing delivery of vital public services by providing upgraded and reliable infrastructure for the police. By maintaining operational continuity during construction, we ensured that public safety and community service were never compromised.
